Replacing The Battery

IMPORTANT: Use HITACHI Sealed Lead-Acid Battery HP1.2-12 (12V, 1.2Ah) only !

  1. Make sure that the PULSE STAR II is turned off and no charger is connected.
  2. Open the PULSE STAR II (turn the unit, loose and take out two srews from the lower side, turn the unit again, detach the upper side of the housing).
  3. Carefully pull out the REAR electronic module.
  4. Push the battery towards the open back side of the housing (do not pull the battery upwards !) and pull off the two connecting wires.
  5. Put in the REAR module. Ensure that both the aluminum panel and the printed circuit board slide into the guiding slots of the housing. Also ensure that the 18-pin-connector fits exactly in its counterpart on the MAIN Module (CAUTION: single pins may be twisted !).
  6. Connect the two wires with the terminals of the new battery. Make sure to connect the red wire with the positive battery terminal and the black wire with the negative terminal.
  7. Place the new battery on the former location with the fasteners downwards and the terminals pointing to the housing's outside.
  8. Strongly press the battery down to lock the fasteners.
  9. Place the two connecting wires of the battery in a way that protects them to become jammed between the two halfs of the housing.
  10. Last, place the upper part of the housing. Again, ensure that the guiding slots on both the front and rear side precisely embrace the FRONT and REAR modules.

Notes:
Like all batteries the lead/acid battery of the PULSE STAR II suffers from self-discharging. To compensate this the battery of the PULSE STAR II must be charged at least every eight weeks even if the unit is not in use! If the battery remains in a discharged condition (either by forgetting to recharge or by forgetting to turn the PULSE STAR II off), the battery may lose capacity or even may be destroyed.

This kind of battery does not suffer from "memory-effects" known from NiCad batteries, allowing you to give the battery a "booster charge" at any time.

Important note (April 1, 1994):
The value of the built-in fuse on the REAR module has been changed from 0,315AT to 1AT (1 Amp, time-lag). If you find a unit with the old fuse, please replace it with a new one and place a new sticker on top of the MAIN module (1A fuse and sticker come together with a replacement battery as a set).
